Four Finalists Remain in Subway Review

General Mills Adds 72andSunny, Fallon to Roster

Two months after appointing W+K as lead creative agency for its Yoplait brand (which shortly followed the appointment of Ann Simonds as chief marketing officer), General Mills has added two more agencies to its roster, appointing 72andSunny as lead creative agency for Totino’s and Fallon for Old El Paso. AdAge reports that General Mills spent approximately $28 million on Totino’s and $18 million on Old El Paso in 2014.

Michael Fanuele, a former chief strategy officer at Fallon who joined General Mills last year as chief creative officer, told Adage, “America loves Old El Paso, and Fallon will help us stoke that passion. They know how to cultivate powerful relationships between people and brands.” He cited Totino’s as one of General Mills fastest growing brands and added that 72andSunny’s “experience building brands with pop-culture power is a perfect fit for Totino’s.”

Fanuele also told the publication that McCann Erickson and Saatchi & Saatchi remain General Mills’ main creative agencies, with no further changes to their assignments, or further roster additions for General Mills, on the horizon.

For Fallon, the news follows being named agency of record for the Big Ten Network last month, while 72andSunny has won work on AXE and Adidas Sport since the beginning of the year.

Two CDs Leave McCann Erickson for Bigdog

Bigdog, the agency created from the merger of Balloon Dog and Big Communications, announced the hiring of creative directors Barrie Robinson and Tim Jarvis, both of whom join the agency from McCann Erickson, The Drum reports.

Jarvis and Robinson spent four years as a creative team at McCann Erickson, with Robinsons serving as an art director and Jarvis as a senior copywriter. While with McCann Erickson they worked with clients including Honda, Kellogg’s, BBC and World Vision. Before that they worked together as an art director/copywriter team at Gratterpalm for two years, working with clients such as Greggs, Asda, Arla and LA Fitness. Prior to that, Jarvis served as a copywriter with Poulters for three years. Robinson arrived at Gratterpalm from Cheethambell JWT, where he spent a year as an art director following over two years in the same position at Family Advertising.

“It’s taken me about 10 years to get the guys here, but to finally have them working in the agency at such an exciting time has been worth the wait,” Dylan Bogg, chief creative officer at Bigdog, told The Drum.

McCann Wins Choice Hotels

choice hotels

In a case of tips confirmed, we have the official press release announcing that McCann has won the Choice Hotels account.

McCann Erickson will handle creative while MRM//McCann will run “digital and customer relationship marketing responsibilities” for the chain; Deutsch New York was the other finalist in the pitch. This is the first major agency change for the brand since it awarded creative and promotional duties to Leo Burnett and Doner in 2009.

While Choice may not be a household name, many of its properties are: Days Inn, Ramada, Super 8, Howard Johnson, etc. Company SVP Robert McDowell writes:

“McCann presented a strategic, creative vision and platform for telling the powerful Choice story.”

Havas will retain media duties for the brand; Cohn & Wolfe is its PR AOR.

McCann Erickson Wins Cigna Account

Today we can confirm that McCann Erickson won the Cigna account this week. As AdWeek noted back in March, the finalists in the extended review were McCann, Grey and DDB.

Hill Holiday led the account since early 2011; here’s the spot you might remember.

The company spent $25 million on that campaign in order to promote “a segment that is set to expand substantially under the health-overhaul law”, and its spend looks to exceed that number for 2014.

Former McCann ECD Natalie Lam Joins Razorfish New York

Today we learned, via press release, that agency veteran Natalie Lam has landed at Razorfish New York as Executive Creative Director.

Lam most recently served as ECD at McCann Erickson, which hired her away from OgilvyOne Shanghai; earlier in her career, she earned attention from McCann for working on the Nike+ account at R/GA. She also recently held the jury chair spot at the Art Directors Club.

Patrick Frend, president of Razorfish’s eastern division, writes:
“We are fortunate enough to work with clients who understand the value of creativity and the pivotal role digital plays in business transformation. Natalie brings a global perspective and a passion for her craft that can take these experiences and our clients to the next level.”
Lam led IKEA at Erickson; at her new gig she will handle clients like Mercedes and UNIQLO.

Sparks Grove Hires Agency Vet Russell Heubach as ECD

ECDThe Atlanta-based Sparks Grove agency–itself a division of global consultancy North Highland–has hired Russell Heubach as the newest executive creative director in its New York office.

Heubach brings an extensive agency history to the role: he began his stateside career with stints at The Martin Agency, JWT and DDB before working as creative group head at Australia’s Publicis Mojo and regional ECD for JWT Dubai.

While he held the GCD title at mcgarrybowen in his last full-time in-house position, the past two years include freelance gigs with BBDO, DDB, CP+B, StrawberryFrog and, most recently, McCann Erickson, where he worked on the Verizon and Burger King accounts.

OK, then. As CCO Minsoo Park puts it:

“We are excited that someone with his background and industry recognition chose Sparks Grove. “

Heubach himself fills out the press release, writing:

“My goal is to help build and grow a company that services our clients and all of their possible needs with the highest creative excellence.”

He certainly has the track record.

Dica do leitor @amples.
