Step Right Up and Watch This Air Acrobat Attempt the Most Irresponsible Circus Act Ever

One December day at the International Scene of Contemporary Dance in Stockholm, Sweden, a man named Olle, one of the best air acrobats in the world, did a triple-somersault jump. It was a jump like hundreds of others he’d done before, but this time was different.

He fell on his head.

“Within that second I heard my neck break. A moment devoid of time,” Olle writes. “The sound of the neck break echoed in my head, itself an endless, dark, spherical space in which I was hovering weightlessly.”

Olle crushed several cervical vertebrae and damaged his spinal cord. He was paralyzed from the neck down. The doctors couldn’t say how much brain functioning he’d regain, or even whether he would walk again. One thing was sure: He’d never jump again.

It’s been 10 years since then. Olle has miraculously recovered. Many people like him would count their blessings, move to a quiet town and take up gardening. But in what’s being dubbed “the most irresponsible circus performance ever,” Olle is gearing up to repeat the same jump, with just one difference. This time, he’ll do it from up to 12,000 feet in the sky.

With This Sweet Ad, Ikea Joins Small Group of Brands Willing to Talk About Divorce

As we’ve mentioned before, very few companies explore the topic of divorce, or its ramifications for families, in their advertising. It’s just too depressing, the thinking goes, even if it’s also, of course, relatable to so many millions of people worldwide.

A few brands have taken the risk—Honey Maid, of course, and also Ford, which rolled out this beautiful and sad short film earlier this year.

Now, it’s Ikea’s turn. Check out the spot here.

Reekbok wants you to stop using the wrong shoes at the gym

Running shoes are great for treadmills, but when it comes to everything else in the gym they are definitely the wrong shoe. Stability is key. To get people to understand this, Animal Stockholm created Workout TR 2.0. IN selected gyms across Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen, gym rats can go and try out Reebok’s gym equipment that approximated what it’s like to work out while wearing the wrong shoes. The box jumps are higher, the weights are heavier, and the rope climb is a lot longer. Fun idea– let’s just hope the gym rats don’t see it as a challenge to overcome Ha..

Stockholm Pride "Los Santos GTA 5 Mod" (2016) 2:24 (Sweden)

Stockholm Pride Festival is combating the violence in GTA by releasing its own ”Los Santos Pride” mod. This will allow gamers to have their own Pride Parade in GTA 5. It’s basically the same idea Coke had back in 2006 but they actually created the mod rather than just a spot. Question is, how many gamers who play GTA will download and use it? They should do one for Destiny next. There’s already dancing in it.

A-Z – The Inner Voice (2016) 1:50 (Sweden)

A-Z - The Inner Voice (2016) 1:50 (Sweden)
An anthem spot featuring Zlatan Ibrahimovic in which everyone lip syncs his mantra about never giving up and being better than everyone else.favorite part is this: “You will sweat, cry, scream, bleed. And if anyone criticizes your labor? Rip out their tongues and let their words be your meat.” Only one thing can take you from A to Z and that’s U! Sorry, I meant, you. Ibrahimovic is the force behind A-Z sportswear and this mantra is as much a rallying cry for all athletes as it is a middle finger to the mega sports brands like Nike and adidas. Look out– he’s coming for you. Already you can tell there’s a very specific, in your face quality to the brand I like. Thankfully the apparel itself isn’t that over-the-top. Note to Zlatan: Stay away from the I.P stealing cartoon world of Jeremy Scott and you’ll be fine. Keep it dark.

Why Electrolux Made This Dry Cleaning Business Look Exactly Like One Woman's Home

Branded prank videos are still hanging around, as we saw earlier this week with Publicis’ great Heineken stunt from Brazil. And here’s a fun new one from Sweden, where Electrolux touted its UltraCare range of washing machines by turning the dry cleaning store that one Swedish woman uses into a replica of her own apartment.

ICA – National Holiday / Congrats to us all (2016) :30 (Sweden)

ICA Sweden often comment on current events and seasonal holidays with their weekly ads. In march they welcomed the new intern Abdullah, a.k.a “Abbe”, as a move to reflect the changing Swedish society, and now the himbo Ulf declares his love for Sweden in an unusually patriotic and proud way ahead of our national day 6th of June. “I’ve been thinking” he says, “us Swedes don’t make a big thing about the national day, I mean, we’re not like the Norwegians, but isn’t Sweden something to celebrate?”

“I mean here you get to say what you want, think what you want, and love who you want,” he continues, “and we’re both healthier and happier than a lot of other people here on earth.”
“So it’s not all that strange that so many people want to come here, and you and I who wake up here every day, haven’t we won the lottery?”
Stig then joins in, “This we’ll celebrate with some coffee” and Sebastian agrees that one needs to take the opportunity while the sun is out. How superbly Swedish of them both. As a side-note, ICA charge the Swedish government 68 million kronor a year for debit-cards that are handed out to asylum-seekers, so I guess this ad is expanding market.

Samsung "Virtual motivation" (2016) 3:40 (Sweden)

New Mills AFC is the worst football club in England. They hadn’t won a game all season. The town doesn’t even both to show up to the games. Something had to be done. Enter: Samsung. The equipped the entire team with Samsung Gear VR–glasses so they could receive a pep talk from none other than Harry Redknapp. And was incredibly inspiring and motivating. So did they go out there and win? No! When I saw that I had to laugh. Okay, so all that technology for a virtual pep talk and they are still the worst team, eh? So much for VR. What I will say is this: Harry Redknapp’s speech which you can see below, is a treat. With just the right amount of keyboard schmaltz and inspirational words. “Winning is a choice….on the pitch and in life.” Nice touch his calling out those guys by name, too.

Audi "the 3D audio song" (2016) 1:29 (Sweden()

The new Audi A4 comes with a 3D sound system from Bang & Olufsen. To get the word out, Audi partnered with Swedish electronic duo Cazette and singer Laleh to create a song meant for 3D speakers and then release it exclusively through Audi A4. That’s right, their track “Blue Sky,” was mixed to perfection to the 19 speakers in the new A4. The song drops officially tomorrow, Monday the 23rd. And you can hear it in the A4 in Audi dealers across Sweden. If you don’t feel like schlepping down to a dealer, the song will stream on Spotify starting June 3.

Vimla – A Love Story – (2016) 1:45 (Sweden)

Vimla - A Love Story - (2016) 1:45 (Sweden)
The “Vimla” campaign tells the stories of several of these large-headed people. This ad is about a girl who falls in love with a guy, but then leaves him. The many stories were then edited together into shorter spots to air on TV, the join-edit ran nearly every commercial break all winter.
The Art Direction here, with the large animated heads, is a little odd and feels like a throwback to the 90s, but at least visually intriguing enough to make you watch… whatever it is you’re watching. The shots of Stockholm are both gritty and gorgeous, it feels urban and cool. In the end, what we’re selling here is a cellular phone network that offers a contract free service. The difference between Vimla and other networks is that they’ll call you a “Member” instead of customer, and you’re vote affects what services they should develop and introduce next. That’s all well and good, but not communicated in this ad at all. I guess the kids don’t care as long as it looks cool. Now lets all go out at night and empty fire extinguishers for no apparent reason, we’re so cool.

Vimla – Call For Difference! (2016) :40 (Sweden)

Vimla - Call For Difference! (2016) :40 (Sweden)
When I wrote about the Love Story and said there was a multi-edit that aired in TV all winter, this is that multi edit. We see a lot of our different bobble-headed people ask themselves questions, like how they can make a difference in the world. This makes sense as it’s selling the Vimla service, a phone network where you are a member and not a customer, where you and your votes do make a difference. Then it brings us to the end where Vimla also declare that they donate part of the profits to charity – answering the call to “can we consume without harming?” asked by one of the bobble-heads. In this context the 90s bobble-head look makes sense, these are the Vimla members. They’re different. So different they’re special snowflakes in a sea of snowflakes. I kind of wish there was a scene where everyone turned bobble-head as one bobble-head points to the others. Though that may be Body Snatchers territory. This was brought to you by the department : “I read into ads too much”.

Com Hem "Come home to play" (2016) 1:00 (Sweden)

Reebok "Disco chalk" (2016) :04 (Sweden)

On May 14th, the glam hits the fan with the biggest, most glamorous music competition of the year: Eurovision. It’s a guilty pleasure among millions, and the fitness community is no exception. So to help get athletes in a sparkly mood, Reebok created Disco Chalk. Here’s the promo/gif for it.

With Reebok Disco Chalk, every workout is a fabulous workout. Its unique formula, consisting of pure chalk and a dash of glitter, turns blood, sweat and tears into a glimmering thing of the past. “To bridge the gap between two completely different worlds with a unique product has been an exciting undertaking. It’s a good example of how a creative solution can extend and become part of a wider conversation.” says Julia Eriksson, copywriter at Animal.

During the week leading up to the song contest, Reebok will be sending out the limited edition Disco Chalk to CrossFit boxes and Reebok athletes across Europe. Included in the package is a specially developed Disco Pump
workout, consisting of three key upper-body exercises to get you pumped and glittery in no time. “We wanted to find a way for our tough fitness athletes to show their love for the upcoming European song contest
without compromising on their workout routine. The solution was simple. We call it, Disco Chalk.” says Charlotte Wik, Senior Manager Digital/Publishing, Reebok Western Europe.

All I can say is, this is begging to be turned into a fabulous spot. I want to see it now.

Systembolaget – Big Brother / Don't buy alcohol for younger – (2016)

Systembolaget - Big Brother / Don't buy alcohol for younger - (2016)
Big brother. It’s a big deal. At first the young boy seems to not know what to do with the little baby brother in his lap, but soon he grows to be his protector. Helper. Teacher. Best friend. Most annoying gaming-partner in the world. Everything a big brother does. And then he gets the question. We can see clearly that big brother doesn’t quite know what to do here in this situation, so the payoff is simple: If you want help to argue against buying alcohol for someone younger, see Systembolaget.se

“Systembolaget” is the government controlled alcohol shops in Sweden, they are the only place where you can sell anything alcoholic and they pride themselves on creating ads and tactics to sell less alcohol. To buy for someone who isn’t of age yet even has its own word in Swedish, it’s called “langa”, and that’s the question little brother asked: “Could his big brother “langa” him some beers for a party?”

Non-Swedes, overlook for a moment the strange phenomena of a client trying to sell less of their product, and I think you’ll agree that this is cinematically a very well told story of brotherly love.

Sweden Democrats apologise for beggars in new subway campaign –

Sweden Democrats apologise for beggars in new subway campaign -
Sweden Democrats, known as SD, the political party in Sweden that won 12,86 % of the votes at the last election but no other party wants to be associated with, are currently running a controversial campaign in one single subway station in Stockholm. As soon as the campaign went up, people on social media protested the message and spread photos of the posters, effectively ensuring that all the newspapers and the evening news would give the campaign earned media space. On the evening news, Amie Bramme Sey announced that she’s staging a demonstration against the ads, with a facebook event as the hub, which will take place tonight at 18:00, and already 12000 people have confirmed that they’re going.

The posters, and the elaborate sticker message that you see when you go down the escalators apologises to tourists for Sweden, in English. The copy reads: “Sorry about the mess here in Sweden. 🙁 We have a serious problem with forced begging. International gangs profit from peoples desperation. Our government won’t do what’s needed. But we will and we are growing at record speed. We are the only opposition party in Sweden: Sweden Democrats! Welcome back to a better Sweden in 2018.”
At the end of the escalator ride, two posters cover the wall, on the left there’s a huge image of what’s supposed to look like a Romani beggar sleeping in the street. “Sweden can do better than this” the line above it reads. On the opposite wall a giant SD logo and flowers cements their status as the “only opposition party in Sweden”.

Comedian and podcaster Soran Ismail responded to the campaign by tweeting “high time to start ‘planka’ (a word for fare evasion)” and the hashtag “Stockholm public transport spreads racism.” The tweet has been retweeted over 500 times, while some who are responding to it ask him why he’s encouraging people to break the law.
Hög tid att börja planka då #SLSpriderRasism— Soran Ismail (@Soranismail) August 3, 2015
