Hockey Club Davis - Hockey Rink Bingo! (2016) case study (Switzerland)
Checking has always been a part of the game of hockey – and now, it’s a game itself. Hockey Club Davos, a professional Swiss Hockey team, is like so extremely successful teams today, financially dependent on merchandise and ticket sales. Needing to increase sales, advertising agency FCB Zurich found a tech-solution. “Rink Bingo,” an interactive game of bingo based on an essential part of hockey – checking.

The team created and app, and then wired up the Hockey Rink panels using special sensors, to measure the vibrations of a ‘check’. The Jumbotron would announce the numbers as they happened, and on the app the audience now not only watched the game, they also played Rink Bingo. Prizes for the Rink Bingo wins were two-for-one offers as the concession stands, merchandise discounts and ticket promos. The popular app was used throughout the entire 2015-2016 season, and “Rink Bingo” increased the fan shop sales by 128%, beverages by 34% and food by 46%. A very smart advertising solution that both solved the teams core issue but also increased fan fun.
